ANTONIO STRADIVARI
Antonio Stradivari (Cremona, Lombardy, 1644, 18 December 1737) was the most prominent Italian luthier. The Latin form of his surname, Stradivarius , is used to refer to his instruments. His first violin was made of recycled wood
Son of Alessandro Stradivari and Ana Moroni. Between 1667 and 1679, he was probably an apprentice in Poll Androise's workshop.
In addition to violins, Stradivarius built harps, guitars, violas and violoncellos, between 1000 and 1100 instruments in total, 1 2 according to recent estimates, of which, about 650 are still now
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has the most Stradivarius in its strings section, purchased from the Herbert Axelrod collection in 2006.
